Attractions in Oxford

Oxford City has a great number of tourist attractions, many of which are owned by the historical Oxford University. These attractions bring thousands of tourists to Oxford City yearly. Here are some sights to visit if you are planning a trip to Oxford City.

Christ Church Cathedral – This beautiful church contains the dining hall used in the Harry Potter films. This location draws thousands of Harry Potter fans from around the world each year and is a favorite of many locals as well.

Ashmolean Museum – This is Britain’s oldest museum and one of the oldest museums in the world! This historical art museum draws in thousands each year, and admission here is free!

The University Botanic Garden – Here you will find over 7,000 different types of plants making this the most diverse plant collection in the world. You will find more plant diversity here than you would find in the tropical rain forest. Gardeners visit from all over the world to seek inspiration here.

Museum of Oxford – Located in the heart of Oxford City Centre, you will travel back in time learning all about the city of Oxford and its history. You will learn of Oxfords early residents, hear war stories and learn all about the growth and development of this great city.

The Bodleian Library – This is the main research library at Oxford University. The Medieval Divinity School is located here. The architecture here is absolutely amazing. This building is a true representation of English Gothic architecture!

Carfax Tower – This 74 foot tower is right in the heart of the city. The tower is the remains of St Martin’s Church of the 13th Century. You can climb to the top of the tower for an excellent view of the entire city of Oxford.

New Oxford Theater - Also located in the heart of Oxford, this theater has family friendly shows playing throughout the year. You will find many classic shows playing here, including 'Beauty and the Beast'.

Museum of the History of Science – This is the world’s oldest purpose-built museum building and is located in the heart of Oxford. This is the first museum ever to open to the general public. No other science history museum in the world can rival this one. Folks travel from all over the world to learn the true history of 'natural science' here.

There is so much more to this wonderful city. You can schedule a tour of the city if you are pressed for time. However, if you are fortunate enough to have a week or more to enjoy Oxford, there are a myriad of attractions in Oxford City that you are sure to enjoy!
